North v south final in girls' cricket cup

By schoolsportmag2, Jul 6 2021 01:00PM

Shrewsbury School batted sensibly to reach the final of the School Sport Magazine National U18 Girls T20 Cricket Cup today.

In wet and windy conditions at Abingdon School in Oxfordshire, Shrewsbury’s bowlers took the upper hand early on against the Leys School after the Cambridgeshire’s captain and leading runscorer Issy Routledge was unluckily run out backing up early on.

Leys battled back to reach 88-7 in their 20 overs but Shrewsbury recovered well from losing two early wickets to win by eight wickets in 15.2 overs.

Their opponents in the final will be Bede’s School who won another low-scoring second semi-final against Millfield.

Bede’s bowlers proved extremely effective on a damp pitch, restricting their Somerset opponents to 66-9 in their 20 overs.

And, despite losing three early wickets themselves and seemingly struggling at 17-3, the Sussex side (68-4) bounced back to win by six wickets.
